Oronike Odeleye 2020 Ebon Dooley Honoree Change Maker Oronike Odeleye is a freelance Arts & Entertainment consultant who has worked with a range of clients including ONE Musicfest, The National Black Arts Festival, The Annie B Casey Foundation, American Express, The Atlanta Hawks, and The City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office. In 2017 she co-founded the #MuteRKelly campaign to advocate for the black community's divestment from accused serial sexual abuser, R. Kelly. Through her work over the past 2 years, the #MuteRKelly campaign has gotten 16 concerts canceled in the US and abroad, held protest rallies in 8 cities, had his music downgraded from streaming platforms and banned from radio stations across the nation, gotten RCA to end his recording contract, and has seen charges brought against him by the FBI and Chicago PD, and investigations launched in Atlanta, GA and Detroit, Michigan. Most importantly, her work has sparked conversations around the nation about sexual abuse in the #MeToo era, childhood sexual abuse in the Black community, and the politics of race, wealth and fame in bringing abusers to justice. Oronike was featured in the explosive Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R Kelly, and has been interviewed on-air and in print by publications worldwide including The New York Times, The Roland Martin Show, NPR, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Rolling Stone, BBC, and The Root, as well as on countless radio stations and podcasts. She has lectured nationwide about the #MuteRKelly campaign, social media activism, rape culture, race and gender politics in intersectional feminisim, childhood sexual abuse in the Black Community, and modern ideas around female sexuality at Morehouse College, Norfolk State University, Princeton University, and Syracuse University. In 2019, Oronike was honored as one of OkayAfrica's 100 Women, celebrating women from Africa and the Diaspora disrupting the status quo. In April 2019 she was honored with the Activist Impact Award at the Breakthrough Inspiration Awards in NYC. In May of the same year she received the Visionary Champions award at Resilience's Evening of Impact in Chicago, IL. Most recently she was named the #5 Most Influential African American 25-45 years old on the Root 100 2019 list which honors the innovators, the leaders, the public figures and game changers whose work from the past year is breaking down barriers and paving the way for the next generation. Mausiki Scales and the Common Ground Collective — a local band with international reach — will play a concert at 8 p.m. June 24 in the Paul Robeson Theater at the ArtsXchange, 2148 Newnan St. in East Point. The collective will return to offer their free community workshop, “Blues People: The Music and Culture of African Americans,” open to all ages from 3-5 p.m. on June 25. In this free masterclass, Mausiki Scales and his guests will guide participants through an exploration of the intellectual and social origins of African American music — Black Folk music, Blues, Jazz, popular, religious and others — from its beginnings in Africa to its enculturation into the music of the Americas. Founded and led by Mausiki Scales, the Common Ground Collective, is a group of Atlanta-based musicians who have been working together since 1999. The band explores genres that reflect Africa and the African Diaspora including Afrobeat, Funk, Jazz, Soul, Blues and Hip Hop. With a commitment to performing that expands beyond mere entertainment, the band claims community healing as core to its mission. Mausiki Scales & Common Ground's sound concerns itself with the African ancestral musical arts, while being fully present in addressing contemporary experiences. tenisio seanima Fresh Oasis Garden Manager Justice 40 Cohort Liaison Studio Artist freshoasis@artsxchange.org tenisio seanima, the inaugural Urban Agriculture Manager for East Point, GA possesses an unwavering passion for creating positive change, which earned him the reputation as a service-driven leader across the Southeastern United States. During the past two decades, he has cultivated extensive experience in the arena of cooperative development, food policy, agricultural sales, leadership, mass media, and social activism. tenisio began his career path in agriculture by serving as the owner of Nature's Candy Farms and the Sales Manager of Truly Living Well Center for Natural Urban Agriculture, respectively. He also spent the period between 2015 and 2019 serving as the Farmer Services Coordinator for Georgia Organics, Inc., the Procurement Associate for the Common Market Southeast, and as a Program Coordinator for HABESHA, Inc, all of which are notable agricultural organizations operating in the state of Georgia. In addition to a B.S. in Green and Sustainable Enterprise Management from the University of Phoenix, tenisio is Master Gardener Certified by HABESHA, Inc. and he’s certified on the USDA's National Organic Program rules for Produce and Livestock by the International Organic Inspector's Association. He is also a certified produce-safety trainer with the Produce Safety Alliance. In the near future, he aspires to revive his family’s farm, the August Long Estate, which has withstood the test of time since 1882. When he isn’t immersed in his multifaceted agriculture career, tenisio enjoys wild foraging, practicing Egyptian yoga, and even DJing. Cleigaie Narcisse 2024 Jack Sinclair Gallery Assistant Cleigaie Narcisse is a Fine Arts Manager, detail-oriented independent curator, and Project Manager from the Bronx, NY. Her passion for creativity inspired her to pursue Graphic Design at Kennesaw State but her business acumen led her to receive a BS in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University. After an early career in Marketing introduced her to the world of curation. Cleigaie quickly became engaged with the Atlanta art scene, reinvigorating her passion for supporting the arts. Cleigaie worked as the Manager and Associate Curator of Future Gallery, a black artist-owned fine art gallery exhibiting the works of emerging contemporary artists. She also works as Project Manager of Future Dead Artists, an arts organization that aims to develop a thriving arts ecology for local artists. Possessing a deep interest in representation and cultural awareness within communities, Cleigaie is dedicated to the equity of funding and access to opportunities that develop a more inclusive arts ecology where true representation can thrive and inspire. She continues to work with artists as a manager and consultant. Cleigaie Narcisse, is an Atlanta-based Arts Administrator passionate about supporting artists and creatives. Hailing from Bronx, New York she was exposed to a plethora of experiences in the arts, from music, theater, dance, and graffiti street art to museum exhibits developing a deep affinity for the arts in all its forms early on. After studying Graphic Design at Kennesaw State University, she interned with Cartoon Network’s in-house production studio, Williams Street on projects for their Adult Swim programming block. With a professional background in Marketing, Creative Direction, Brand and Project Management, Cleigaie quickly acclimated to the Atlanta arts scene and nurtured her passion for supporting the arts. In 2018 she signed on as the Gallery Manager and Associate Curator of Future Gallery in East Point Atlanta and Project Manager of the artist collective Future Dead Artists. Going on to co-curate over 15 exhibitions, artist talks, and workshops featuring local, national, and international visual and performance artists. In 2019 she head curated “Dead Ringer Vol. III”, a Future Dead Artists’ annual juried group exhibition, featuring a unique concept of the creative inspiration processes between visual artists and Photographers. During the turn of the pandemic, in 2021 as a member of Future Dead Artists and in partnership with The Creatives Project TCP she co-curated a Juneteenth-inspired group exhibition “Self-Liberated”. This exhibit focused on celebrating local Black artists who were trailblazers, leaders in their own right, who did things their way and on their terms, embodying the spirit of Juneteenth. She has been published in both Visionary Artistry Magazine and Voyage ATL. As a passionate volunteer and curator, she has worked with various organizations such as; MOCA GA, Future Gallery, The Creatives Project TCP, The Lines Gallery, TILA Studios, The ArtsXchange, SOHO Art Group, and has built relationships with independent artists and arts administrators in and around Atlanta. Frankie Mulinix (Vandellous) Studio Artist contact@vibrancecentre.com https://frankiemulinix.com “At times let art be a balm; at other, a bomb” - Vandellous Frankie Mulinix (Vandellous) is a queer, nonbinary, disabled, and neurodivergent performer, emcee, producer, dramaturge, choreographer, director, voice teacher, performance educator, mental health worker, and intimacy choreographer and coordinator. Through these various roles, their work is focused on the body as the site of liberation, the voice as action, the revolutionary capacity of community, and the healing potential of unflinching art. As Vibrance: Centre for Voice and Movement, Frankie supports creatives seeking to work with their physiology to build their skills, develop their practice, reclaim their autonomy, and learn how presence, pleasure, and play aid in auto-organization to overcome freeze/survival states, trauma, and other barriers to artistic expression. Their theatre company Burning Bones Physical Theatre, is dedicated to engaging with the local community and expanding the possibilities of live performance in daring and imaginative ways through butoh dance, Fitzmaurice Voicework®, and Organic Intelligence®. As a solo performer, Frankie creates butoh-, burlesque-, fire-, and text-based work with performer and producer credits spanning Canada, Australia, and the United States. They are the founder of Forbidden Fascinations and artistic associate of Celestial Cabaret. Recent notable performances include Art on the Atlanta Beltline, Beltline After Dark, the DANCEATL alumni showcase, Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, and the dance film Construct: ATL which has been selected for UNFIX NYC and Dance Camera Istanbul. Frankie holds a BFA in Physical Theatre Performance through Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, with a focus on writing, dramaturgy, directing, and multidisciplinary performance, and a Master’s in Occupational Therapy from the University of Queensland, specializing in LGBTIQ+ occupational justice, mental health, chronic pain, and neurology. Frankie is a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework® and a certified Organic Intelligence® coach. They hold an Associate Performer Diploma (ATCL) with Trinity College, London, UK, and are a certified Speech Arts Teacher with Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), Toronto, Canada. They are trained in Reiki (level 3), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Basic, Advanced, and ACT for Performance), Knight Thompson Speechwork, TIE’s Intimacy Choreography practices, and specialize in working with trans and nonbinary clients. They are a member of the Voice and Speech Trainer's Association (VASTA), a 2021 Hambidge Cross-Pollination Art Lab Fellow, and a Reiser Art Lab recipient (2022-2023). Frankie co-designed a performance and modified acrobatics pilot program for children with cerebral palsy through the Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland. They formed United We Dance to educate and build support in the Brisbane community for marriage equality through dance and were invited guests at Brisbane’s Mental Health Day. Their work resulted in the Queensland branch of Occupational Therapy Australia issuing a public statement of unequivocal support for LGBTIQ+ folks, recognizing the health impacts of occupational injustices that uniquely impact the community. Frankie has emceed and produced several long-standing events such as Alchemy, Brisbane Square Library’s immensely successful monthly showcase of spoken word poetry, dance, circus, burlesque, and music; Bang on a Boa, the annual fundraiser for the acquired brain injury organization Synapse; Lost Movements, a bi-monthly “happening” of street art, music, burlesque, body art, and dance; and celebration of The Female Form, an annual art showcase co-organized with the painter Vanessa Swift. Frankie co-created the steering committee for and served as the first president of BLP, bringing art, entertainment, education, and community events centered around alternative lifestyles in Queensland. Frankie also trains and competes as a triathlete on Team USA, using all their creative somatic practice to support their athletic endeavors and their endurance sports experience to support their work in the arts. The Art of Literacy & Storytelling: Combining Language Skills and Visual Arts Call for Visual Art Classes The Art of Literacy & Storytelling: Combining Language Skills and Visual Arts Call for Visual Art Classes: Visual Literacy Workshops – How can one read a painting or a piece of art? What is the connection between creating a work of art and telling a story? We are seeking classes and instructors who can explore these connections between literacy, story telling, and visual arts. We are particularly looking for classes in the following areas: Mixed Media Painting Drawing Collage Multiple submissions permitted . One application per class series. Eligibility: Applicants must live in METRO Atlanta, GA Applicants must be able to teach classes in person at the ArtsXchange. Applicants must be experienced teaching artists with minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
