The Art of Literacy & Storytelling: Combining Language Skills and Visual Arts 


 

Call for Visual Art Classes:

Visual Literacy Workshops – How can one read a painting or a piece of art? What is the connection between creating a work of art and telling a story? We are seeking classes and instructors who can explore these connections between literacy, story telling, and visual arts.


We are particularly looking for classes in the following areas:

  • Mixed Media

  • Painting

  • Drawing

  • Collage


Multiple submissions permitted. One application per class series.


 

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must live in METRO Atlanta, GA

  • Applicants must be able to teach classes in person at the ArtsXchange.

  • Applicants must be experienced teaching artists with minimum of 5 years teaching experience.

ROUND ONE

Deadline for Submissions:

Sunday, April 6, 2025


Selection Notification:

Tuesday, April 15, 2025


CLASS DATES must take place between:

Thursday, May 1, 2025 - Monday, June 30, 2025


CLASS TIMES must be between:

Tuesday - Fridays ( No classes on Mondays, Sundays or Saturdays )

11AM - 5PM


 

ROUND TWO

Deadline for Submissions:

Monday, June 30, 2025


Selection Notification:

Tuesday, July 10, 2025


CLASS DATES must take place between:

Tuesday, July 1, 2025 - Monday, November 30, 2026

CLASS TIMES must be between:

Tuesday - Saturday ( No classes on Mondays or Sundays)

11AM - 5PM

 

Class Series Requirements: 

  • Classes Series must be taught in person at the ArtsXchange.

  • Class Series must consist of a minimum of five (5) classes, no more than eight (8) classes.

  • Each class must be 2.5 Hrs in duration.

    • 15 Min - Attendance / Introduction

    •  2 Hrs - Class duration

    • 15 Min - Close out / Student evaluation submission

  • Classes should be designed for ages twelve and older (12+).

  • Classes can be for youth only, seniors only or intergenerational.

  • Classes must be able to accommodate a minimum class size ten (10) students.  Instructor can set the maximum class size.

  • Class description and syllabus must demonstrate connections between visual art, storytelling and language literacy.

  • Class participants will be required / strongly encouraged to participate in the entire class series. 


 

Teaching Artist Compensation

  • $250 per class - Experienced teaching artists rate

    • 25% to be paid at the completion of the first class.

    • Remaining 75% to be paid at the completion of the series with accompanying final report.

  • Final report template will be provided. 


 

Class Materials and Supplies

  • Supply list has to be approved in advance and must correspond to class design and outcomes.

  • Approved Materials and Supplies will be provided by the ArtsXchange.

Class Series Proposal Summary requires the following information:

  • Teaching Reference(s) - 1 required / 2 optional

    • Name, Title, Email & Context

  • Class Series Title

  • Target Audience

    • Age range/ demographic

  • Number of participants per class

  • Names of Classes In Series

  • Date & Times for Classes

  • Class Series Description/ Overview ( Min 500 - Max 1000 words):

    • How does the class series connect to storytelling and literacy?

    • What are the outcomes for students?

    • What will be produced in class?

    • How will you evaluate student success?

    • How does each class reinforce the goals of the class series?

  • Cost for all Materials/Supplies needed for Class Series (USD)
