Maceo Rogers

Maceo was born in the small town of Edison, Georgia and grew up in rural Cuthbert, GA. Rogers began painting imagery of his environment such as old barns and rusted shacks within the rural setting. The first painting he sold netted $20, which triggered excitement and joy in that someone would pay money for his work. It wasn’t until he began attending arts and crafts shows around Southwest Georgia that his exposure to styles and artist techniques broaden his creative horizon. It was during his high school years while attending the Governor’s Honor Program in North Georgia that he got even more exposure to a lot of different mediums that would provide for greater experiments. After high school, Rogers attended the Atlanta College of Art, where he earned a BFA Degree in Visual Communications. Much of his work today consists of life experiences involving a wide range of subject matters. Maceo uses a number of different mediums including acrylic and oil paints, watercolors, pastels, dirt, pen and ink and charcoal to maximize creativity. Realism, Surrealism and Abstraction are core focuses of many of his paintings. Maceo has taught art classes at Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia and around Atlanta, Georgia. He continues to mass market reproductions of his art. He’s received national recognition from such publications as True Imaging Magazine, Upscale Magazine, and Images Magazine, for his work. In addition, Maceo earned a CEcD in Economic Development, a graduate of Leadership DeKalb, Regional Leadership Institute, and a martial arts instructor in Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts in Atlanta, GA. Maceo, his wife Sharon and their son Alexander live in Decatur, Georgia.
