Guest Host Cynthia Winfield
Cynthia Winfield is an author, and a retired middle school educator who has lead Seeking Educational Equity & Diversity workshops for staff, and taught in schools and prisons. Her favorite humans on the planet are eighth grade students – young people just coming into their own and eager to explore the larger world.
Cynthia served as a book reviewer for Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) magazine for over a quarter century.
The first edition of her book, Gender Identity: The Ultimate Teen Guide had been published, shortly before she moved to Tennessee, which was then was known as the “Don’t say ‘Gay’” state because teachers could not say anything positive about being gay. Because she chooses to not hide who she is and believes that educators should be positive role models, she opted to allow her teaching license to expire rather than try to teach in a state that would not support human rights. She misses the classroom to this day.
In 2019, Gender Identity: The Ultimate Teen Guide, Second Edition was named by The Advocate editorial team as one of their "Ultimate Guidebooks for LGBTQ+ Youth in 2019."
This year she is passionate about several projects. One being a message of light and manifestation for ex-offenders ~ although the Covid-19 situation put that project on the back burner, and it became a “Repurposing Grief into Joy” multi-week online workshop for all. The second being the Sovereign Souls Project, the outgrowth of a YA (young adult) novel-in-verse wherein the young (high school age), racially, ethnically and gender diverse characters will achieve sovereignty and reign supreme in their formerly (and continually, to be sure) challenging lives and they live outside society’s norms.
Cynthia wants to highlight the stories of the misrepresented and marginalized among our ranks, which is why she is also starting the Sovereign Souls Poetry Podcast to highlight the voices of artists with social justice messages of inclusive love. Cynthia is eager to see a ripple of love energy go around the world.
If you have interest in becoming involved in the Sovereign Souls Project: A Novel of Visionary Artists Changing the World for Better, please reach out to Cynthia!
