“The Language of Fabric” with Agape | The Hooligan Method  Art. Ancestry. Liberation.

Step into a transformative mixed media workshop led by Atlanta-based artisan, designer, and visionary storyteller Agape, the creative force behind pieces worn by Erykah Badu in The Piano Lesson and a contributing artist with Ruth Carter’s legendary team, “The Tailors of Wakanda.”

With a BFA in Fashion Design and Marketing, and over 20 years in the industry, Agape brings both mastery and magic into the classroom. Her acclaimed technique ~The Hooligan Method, invites students of all ages to explore identity, memory, and emotion through textile collage portraits. This isn’t just crafting, it’s soul work.

What will you learn?

Participants will learn how to use fabric, thread, beads, buttons, and symbolic objects to tell their stories through visual poetry. Each session becomes a journey through self-discovery, ancestral honoring, and deep emotional reflection, culminating in a powerful community art exhibit. Participants will learn her signature Hooligan Method — a soulful blend of African ancestral symbolism, intuitive design, and storytelling through textiles.

Award-winning fashion designer and intuitive artist Agape is bringing her transformational workshop series, The Language of Fabric, to the ArtsXchange in Atlanta - and it’s already generating buzz. Agape, whose work includes collaborations with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth Carter and a custom hat worn by Erykah Badu in Denzel Washington’s The Piano Lesson, now invites students of all backgrounds to explore their personal stories using fabric collage and mixed media. "You're not just making art –you are reading your own soul, and letting it speak in fabric and color," says Agape. This intergenerational class is designed to build confidence, heal through creativity, and preserve personal and ancestral stories in powerful visual and story form.
