The Fifth Saturday Writers Workshop

It’s the rare, mysterious, slightly suspicious Fifth Saturday—so naturally, we’re going to spend it making things up.

Join Theresa Davis for a wild pop-up writing workshop where we beta test her strangest poetry prompts inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. You’ll build a character, give them a history, drop them into a world, and then see what happens when they start talking back.

Will your character be a disgraced wizard with a grocery list for a spellbook? A retired dragon who has strong opinions about gentrification? A tiny village with one enormous secret? A sword that has been waiting 400 years to write its memoir?

You decide.

Through a series of weird, playful, unpredictable prompts, we’ll turn character-building into poetry, prose, flash fiction, and short stories. No D&D experience required. No dice-rolling expertise required. No commitment to being normal required.

Come ready to:

• Build a character with questionable motivations.

• Create a world that may or may not make sense.

• Give objects, places, monsters, and memories a voice.

• Follow a prompt somewhere unexpected.

• Write something strange enough to surprise yourself.

• Help Theresa beta test the prompts and discover which ones create literary magic—and which ones should probably be locked in a dungeon forever.

Bring a notebook, a laptop, your favorite pen, or absolutely nothing but your imagination.
