Stenciling on Wood and Painted Furniture with Lisa Tuttle

What should participants expect from the series/ What will they learn? 

Participants will learn to stencil designs onto painted wood or furniture. Using acrylic paint, students will apply designs to latex-painted wood using pre-cut stencils. A variety of simple stencil designs and Dollar Tree pre-painted wood plaques will be available for students to use.

This technique can be used to paint designs onto any wooden surface, to make gifts, or to transform or personalize furniture.

Who is this class series made for? 

Age 12 – senior

Anyone with any level of artmaking experience is welcome: beginner to advanced.

Please notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance if participants require special accommodations.

What if anything will participants need to bring to the class? 

 The instructor will provide small, plain, pre-painted wooden plaques or objects from Dollar Tree. Given the learning curve of using any painting technique for the first time, students should anticipate some mistakes and are asked NOT to wear anything irreplaceable or unique.

What specific project will you be doing for the class?

I will demonstrate the process by stenciling on a wooden plaque and show examples of two current furniture projects that I’m working on – a child’s chair and a school desk. The demonstration will be at the beginning of class, so students are requested to arrive on time. For the remainder of the workshop, I will consult with each student as they work on their individual projects.

Students will also be provided with a supply list and sources for any future projects.

RSVPs are strongly suggested, as seating is limited. Payment of the fee in advance is required to reserve seats.
