About the Event

What should participants expect from the series/ What will they learn?

Participants will learn to “paint” on cloth. Examples: T-shirts, clothing, small banners, or table linens. Using acrylic textile paint, students will apply permanent, washable designs to cloth using pre-cut stencils. A variety of simple stencil designs will be available for student use.

Once learned, this technique can be used to personalize shirts for oneself or as gifts, make small banners, or “upcycle” used clothing.

Who is this class series made for?

Age 12 – senior

Anyone with any level of artmaking experience is welcome: beginner to advanced.

Please notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance if participants require special accommodation.

What if anything will participants need to bring to the class?

Participants should bring a laundered, white or lightly colored, 100% cotton T-shirt or small pieces of cloth. Polyester or brand-new, unwashed cotton cloth will not work. The instructor will provide additional pieces of cloth. Given the learning curve of using any new painting technique, students should anticipate some mistakes and are asked NOT to bring or wear anything irreplaceable or unique.

What specific project will you be doing for the class?

I will demonstrate the process by stenciling on a T-shirt and show examples of stenciled shirts I’ve done. The demonstration will be at the beginning of class, so students are requested to arrive on time. For the remainder of the workshop, I will consult with each student as they work on their own projects.

Students will also be provided with a supply list and sources for any future projects.

RSVPs are strongly suggested, as seating is limited. Payment of the fee in advance is required to reserve seats.
