About the Event

INTERFERENCE: INTERWOVEN BY SALLY C. GARNER | APRIL 4-14 (RECEPTION 6-9 PM ON APRIL 7 | GALLERY HOURS: 10 AM - 6 PM TUES-SAT

This body of sculptural fiber work reflects on the potential dangers of manipulative human interference with natural processes in the environment. Using weaving as a symbol for mankind’s advancements in technology, Sally is creating a range of sculptures using basketry techniques and ephemeral site-specific weavings to contrast human efforts to control nature against nature’s inherent unruliness – pieces that remind us of the tensions between humans and nature and between chaos and order.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Sally C. Garner is a textile artist based in Atlanta. Her contemporary sculptural works are rooted in traditional weaving techniques but are explored with an innovative, often experimental, approach. Her love of textiles came from her time earning a BFA for Studio Art in Sculpture at the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2013. Her work has been published multiple times in Fiber Art Now magazine and has received awards from Fiber Art Now, the National Basketry Organization, and Surface Design Association. Sally is currently teaching weaving at Georgia State University, where she is also pursuing her Master of Fine Arts. After graduating this May, she plans to continue teaching textile and fiber techniques within higher education.
