Ink & Image: An Ekphrastic Writing Lab - Alchemical Marriage

Ink & Image is an ekphrastic creative writing workshop in the Jack Sinclair Gallery at the ArtsXchange, where visual art becomes the spark for poems, stories, and unexpected voices. Ekphrasis is the practice of responding to artwork through words—writing that describes, questions, inhabits, or even argues with what you see. Instead of simply looking at art, you’ll enter it, using language to explore what lives inside the frame and beyond it.

Each new show, participants will move through the gallery, choosing artworks that call to them. Through guided prompts, discussion, and short writing sprints, you’ll create poetry, flash fiction, and reflective prose inspired by the colors, textures, stories, and silences in the work around you. You don’t need to be a visual artist or an experienced writer—just curious, open, and willing to let the art lead.
