For months, the ArtsXchange has explored literacy, writing, & culture in the movements for civil rights through "The Power of Words: When Poetry Meets Freedom Songs & Images," a Georgia Humanities series centered on the work of SNCC veteran, freedom fighter and photographer Dr. Doris A. Derby.
Sunday, participants will share their writings from this experience in the final author's panel of the series.
“I believe every person has a story to tell and our stories overlap more than we sometimes realize,” said Theresa Davis poet and literary programs director. “Writing creatively allows for honest expression and connection. My goal was to connect our individual stories to parts of Dr. Derby's journey.”
Registering for this event will give you reminders to join us in time for the event.
The ArtsXchange facility and programs are generously supported by the following funders:
SouthArts, Fulton County Arts Council, and Georgia Council for the Arts. Funding provided in part by a grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, and our many individual donors and partners.
The Power of Words Author Panel brings together each month authors who utilize words to express powerful narratives, connection, and musing from a diversity of lenses.
