About the Event

Welcome to the Artist's Toolbox series, an indispensable resource designed to empower writers in their artistic journey and ensure their success. Hosted by the ArtsXchange, a hub for innovation and collaboration in the arts, this virtual pop-up series offers a comprehensive guide to crafting compelling bios and artist statements that effectively showcase the essence of your work.

Workshop Title: Writing an Effective and Eye-Catching Bio

Workshop Description: This workshop will give participants both pragmatic and creative tools to draft a biography for themselves. The trick is to be both intriguing and concise in order to persuade the reader or listener to desire to know more about the artist.

Facilitator: Alex Tha Great

Facilitator Bio: Alex Tha Great (Given Real Encouragement Amongst Turmoil) is a highly decorated spoken word artist, speaker, actress, DEI facilitator, and event organizer holding a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies. She was the co-founder and host of the three-year running arts venue Random Xpressions, is the current #4 ranked Womxn Poet in the World, a celebrated TedX speaker, and community organizer known in her current home of Dallas and earlier roots of East Palo Alto, CA. Her poems have been published in several journals including The Cookout, Illya’s Honey, The Voices Project, The Legendary, and Linden Avenue and she is the author of four collections of poetry including the latest title Weeping in Public Spaces (2022). Her one woman show Passport to Womanhood was awarded Best One Woman Show by the Houston Fringe Festival and toured the southwest region of the U.S. for two years thereafter. Her most gracious job is being mother to a vivacious 6-year-old little girl and is balanced by a self-care routine involving peanut M & M’s, prayer, and much needed naps. She lives by the motto: Whatever you do, let it be bold!

In partnership with South Fulton Institute.
